KWXY Presents ● The Music of Grupo Firme
Grupo Firme is a five-member Mexican music group specializing in regional music and active since 2014. From their start as a norteño band, they have since branched off into other regional styles, most notably Sinaloense. They have either won or been nominated for several major awards, including the Premios Juventud and Premio Lo Nuestro awards from Spanish-language broadcast network, Univision, the IHeart Radio Music Awards where the single “Yo Ya no Vuelvo a Ti” received a 2021 nomination for Best Song and a 2021 Latin Grammy for Best Banda Album for Nos Divertimos Lo Grando Lo Imposible.
The band was formed in 2014 in Tijuana, Baja California by lead singer Eduin Cazares and accordionist/backing vocalist Jairo Corrales. Cazares and Corrales formed the group after meeting future members bassist Christian Téllez, harmony singer Joaquín Ruiz and drummer Dylan Camacho at a musical event in Tijuana. Their twelve-track debut album, Pasado, Presente, Futuro met with little commercial success, but it was successful in introducing the band to a wide audience. Their second double album, El Barco y En Vivo Desde Tijuana: Los Buitrones y Los Firmes, was a collaboration with the Sinaloense band, Los Buitres de Culiacán Sinaloa.
2018 saw Grupo Firme rise to fame with the release of the singles “Pídeme,” “El Roto” and “Juro Por Dios.” A tour across Colombia soon followed along with a live album recorded during the tour, En Vivo desde Medellín Colombia. The official YouTube video for one of their most successful banda singles to date, “El Amor No Fue Pa Mi” from 2019 has received more than 224 million views.
Grupo Firme is preparing to tour Southern California beginning with appearances on Friday, April 15th and Friday, April 22nd at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
