Disclosure is a British electronic music duo active since 2010. The duo consists of brothers Guy Lawrence (born May 25, 1991) and Howard Lawrence (born May 11, 1994) of Reigate, Surrey. Disclosure specializes in various forms of house, synth-pop and electronic dance music. They have released three albums to date and embarked on a world tour in March 2022.
Their parents were both professional musicians and by age three, Guy began playing drums. Howard began playing bass at age eight and later learned to sing. Both brothers play guitar and piano as well. As students at Reigate College, the brothers studied music and music technology. Guy Lawrence first studied classical music, but later turned to serious study of house music, dubstep and hip-hop with Howard. Their first electronic music productions were self-produced and uploaded to Myspace. The uploads were a success, scoring a record deal, a UK tour and other live sets. Their breakout single, “Offline Dexterity” was released on the then-new PMR label in 2010.
In January 2012, Disclosure received national radio support with their digitally-downloaded single, “Tenderly”/”Flow.” “Latch,” with vocals by then-newcomer Sam Smith became Disclosure’s first charted single in October 2012, peaking at number eleven in the UK. On June 3, 2013, Disclosure released Settle, their first studio album and both a commercial and critical success. The album debuted at number one in the UK, charted all across Europe and Asia and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Album.
Disclosure began working on their second album after a worldwide tour which began in 2013. The album, Caracal, was released on September 25, 2015 with three singles each released prior to the album: “Holding On” on May 26, “Omen” on July 2 and “Jaded” on August 1. Disclosure released six new songs and an EP, Ecstasy in 2020 followed by their third and most recent studio album, Energy, recorded after a year’s hiatus. The album featured the singles “Know Your Worth” with singer/songwriter Khalid and “Ecstasy,” the title track of the recent EP.
On March 2, 2022, Disclosure embarked on another world tour beginning in London, UK with the final show scheduled for August 27, again in London. Disclosure is scheduled to perform at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday April 16th and Friday April 23rd.
