KWXY Presents ● The Music of Bishop Briggs

Church of Scars Album - Bishop Briggs British-American singer and songwriter - www.bishopbriggs.com

Bishop Briggs is a Scottish indie pop singer/songwriter and keyboardist active since 2015 and who is currently signed to the Universal Music Group label, Island Records.  All of the music and lyrics of the tracks on her 2018 debut album, Church of Scars, were composed and written by her.  Of its five singles, “River,” which was previously self-released on SoundCloud, is her most successful single to date.  It reached the Top 10 on three Billboard charts and number one on the Spotify US Viral 50.

She was born Sarah Grace McLaughlin in London, UK on July 18, 1992.  Her parents were both from Bishopbriggs, Scotland which inspired her stage name.  She grew up in Tokyo, Japan starting at age four where she first sang in public at a karaoke bar. This inspired McLaughlin to begin writing her own songs at age seven and to pursue a career in music.  Upon graduating high school in Hong Kong, she moved to Los Angeles, California to attend college at Musicians Institute.

Becoming active in the LA music scene and playing wherever she could, she recorded her first single, “Wild Horses” in 2015.  It was later featured in a commercial for Acura which in turn brought her to the attention of listeners who identified the song via the Shazam app.  In 2016, McLaughlin released the commercially successful single “River,” began touring with Coldplay on nine of their fall tour dates and appeared as an opener for Icelandic blues rock Kaleo.

Briggs made her television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and released her fourth and fifth singles, “Pray” and “Be Your Love.”  2017 was equally busy with appearances at the Panorama Festival in New York City, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California and on the soundtrack of the Vin Diesel action film, xXx: Return of Xander Cage.  Her self-titled EP was re-released that year with the addition of the songs “Dark Side” and “The Fire.

After the 2018 release of Briggs’s debut album Church of Scars came the 2019 release of her second studio album, Champion and the announcement of a tour across North America and Europe in support of it.
