IVOX RADIO Presents ● The Music of Stone Temple Pilots
Stone Temple Pilots (STP) emerged in the early 1990s as one of the leading acts in the grunge and alternative rock movements. Formed in San Diego, California, in 1989, the band’s classic lineup consisted of Scott Weiland (vocals), Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums). Known for their dynamic sound, STP combined grunge influences with elements of hard rock, glam, and psychedelic music, creating a unique sonic identity.
Their debut album, Core (1992), was a massive commercial success, featuring hits like “Plush,” “Sex Type Thing,” and “Creep.” The album solidified their place in the grunge era while showcasing their versatility. Their follow-up albums, Purple (1994) and Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), continued their success with tracks like “Interstate Love Song” and “Big Bang Baby,” earning them critical acclaim and a devoted fan base.
Despite struggles with substance abuse and lineup changes, including Weiland’s tragic passing in 2015, STP has persevered, welcoming new vocalists like Jeff Gutt to carry on their legacy. Their ability to evolve while staying true to their roots has made Stone Temple Pilots one of the most influential rock bands of their generation.
