KWXY Presents the Music of Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers is an indie rock singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist and record producer whose career dates back to 2014. Before her solo career, she was a member of the avant-garde rock band, Sloppy Jane. She is presently a member of the indie rock group Boygenius with singer/songwriters Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus and the indie rock duo Better Oblivion Community Center with singer/songwriter Conor Oberst.

Phoebe Lucille Bridgers was born in Pasadena, California on August 17, 1994. She grew up in Pasadena as well as in Ukiah, California. She graduated from the non-profit K-12 Sequoyah School in Pasadena and attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Bridgers was later accepted to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, but dropped out after her freshman orientation to focus on her career.

Bridgers soon became popular in the Los Angeles music scene which brought her to the attention of noted A&R representative and record producer, Tony Berg. The two became friends and Berg helped work on her first album, Stranger in the Alps, for free. During that same time, she met singer/songwriter and poet Ryan Adams who released her debut EP, Killer, on his own label. Stranger in the Alps was released in September 2017 to critical acclaim on the independent label, Dead Oceans. Three singles, “Killer,” “Smoke Signals,” “Motion Sickness” and “Funeral” were released prior to the album.

2018 brought with it her collaboration with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus to form indie rock supergroup, Boygenius. The EP boygenius was released that same year. Bridgers soon teamed up with Conor Oberst to become the duo, Better Oblivion Community Center. Their self-titled debut album was released on Dead Oceans on January 24, 2019 to positive reviews.

In 2020, Bridgers released her second studio album, Punisher. Its theme is darker and more personal than her previous releases and has been described as indie rock, indie folk and emo-folk. In her brief but colorful career, Phoebe Bridgers has earned fifteen award nominations and has won four. Four of her nominations were for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Bridgers 2022 “Reunion Tour” begins April 13 at the Arizona Federal Theatre in Phoenix followed by appearances here in the desert on April 15 th and April 22 nd at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
